Self portrait in my studio. Animated still with sound, 2018.
What a time to be alive - uncertainty and turmoil on so many levels as the anxiety-inducing permacrisis rolls on.
In the midst of the social and financial upheaval, the wars, and the environmental destruction, our planet is still beautiful and awe inspiring. I make art that celebrates this and places faith in natural cycles of growth and decay, even as the pace and scale of environmental loss triggers a kind of anticipatory grief.
I hope that some of the works here offer an escape from the chaos and a quiet, meditative experience that brings a moment of calm. They also hint at the possibility of positive change, dreaming into existence a future - seen from the perspective of deep time - where almost inconceivably long natural cycles have returned us and our landscapes to a state of equilibrium and integrity.
All my work is created by combining drawing, photography, video and other media. Although I work digitally I think like a painter, making intuitive decisions about colour and composition in the same way that a painter might.
The pieces with movement are intended as living pictures rather than videos, like windows onto slowly changing scenes. They're designed to loop indefinitely, so you can watch for as long or short a time as you like.

I grew up in London, gained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and later trained as a Landscape Architect. Following a career in design and project management I came back to my visual art practice and now work from my studio in Sheffield, UK.
